Auburndale city officials will review requirements for a building permit and inspection utilization report, a document mandated by Florida Statutes. The report, derived from the most recent financial audit, will provide transparency on how building permit and inspection fees are used by the local government.
Florida Statute 553.80(7)(b) requires local governments with fee schedules to create and post this utilization report on their website. The mandate became effective Dec. 31, 2020. The statute also stipulates that the city cannot adjust its fee schedule until the building permit and inspection utilization report is updated.
The report will detail operational costs, staffing and other expenditures related to the permitting and inspection process. The city council will discuss generating and publishing the report in an upcoming session. The requirement for updating the report before any fee adjustments ensures proposed changes are linked to a transparent review of current fee utilization.
