Winooski Main Street Project Near Completion | June 6 Parade
Winooski will celebrate the near-completion of its Main Street reconstruction with a community parade on Saturday, June 6, starting at noon at Winooski School District, 60 Normand Street.
The two-year project spans 4,000 feet of U.S. Route 2/7 from the New England Central Railroad bridge to the Winooski-Colchester town line. Construction began in spring 2024 and wraps up this summer, with a ribbon cutting scheduled for October 2026.
The work adds expanded sidewalks, new crosswalks, and bike lanes. The city installed updated traffic signals, enhanced street lighting, and landscaping. Underground crews improved stormwater systems and upgraded water and sewer lines. Power and communication lines moved below ground.
Main Street remains open to traffic. Drivers should expect occasional lane shifts and minor daytime delays near the school district.
The parade route runs down to Maple Street and concludes with a community lunch. Families and students can attend or volunteer. The city posts real-time traffic alerts and weekly construction updates at winooskivt.gov/mainstreet.
