Lake Wind Advisory Issued: Small Craft Hazard on Area Lakes
A Lake Wind Advisory has been issued for central South Carolina from 5 AM to 11 PM EDT Saturday, October 10, with east winds up to 35 mph creating hazardous conditions for small craft; boaters should use extreme caution.
Boaters on area lakes are advised to use extra caution due to a Lake Wind Advisory issued by the National Weather Service Columbia SC. Strong winds and rough waves are expected to create hazardous conditions for small craft.
The advisory is in effect from 5 AM EDT Saturday, October 10, until 11 PM EDT on Saturday, October 10. East winds are expected to reach 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph.
The affected areas include Chesterfield, Newberry, Fairfield, Kershaw, Saluda, Lexington, Richland, Lee, Aiken, Sumter, Barnwell, Calhoun, Clarendon, Bamberg, Northern Lancaster, Southern Lancaster, Northwestern Orangeburg, Central Orangeburg, and Southeastern Orangeburg counties in central South Carolina.
The National Weather Service warns that these conditions can overturn small craft. All individuals planning to be on area lakes during this period should be aware of the increased risk and take appropriate safety measures.
