Travelers in southeastern Humboldt County, Nevada, are advised to exercise extreme caution due to a Dust Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Elko, Nevada. The advisory is effective immediately and will remain in place until 8:00 PM PDT tonight, October 9, 2026.
A dust channel was detected over Winnemucca at 6:29 PM PDT, moving northeast at 55 mph. This is causing reduced visibility to less than two miles and strong winds exceeding 40 mph. The NWS indicates this will create hazardous travel conditions.
The affected areas include Winnemucca, Golconda, and Winnemucca Airport. Travelers on I-80 and US-95 within southeastern Humboldt County will experience reduced visibility and strong winds.
If you encounter blowing dust, avoid driving into it if possible. If caught in dense blowing dust, pull off the road safely, turn off your lights, and keep your foot off the brake. The NWS urges motorists: "PULL ASIDE STAY ALIVE!"
