Attacks Target Civilian Sites in Zaporizhzhia

Zaporizhzhia, a city in southeastern Ukraine, experienced missile and drone attacks on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. These strikes targeted civilian locations, including an educational institution, a residential office block, and public transportation.

Ukrainian officials confirmed the attacks. Yurii Malashko, the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, stated that Russian forces used S-300 missiles and drones during the assaults. The attacks struck a school building, a residential office building, and public transport buses.

Emergency services reported at least two injuries resulting from the strikes. One individual sustained injuries inside the school building, while another was inside the office block when the attacks occurred. Responders provided immediate medical attention to the injured residents.

The S-300 missile system, originally designed as a surface-to-air missile, has been adapted by Russian forces for ground-attack roles. These attacks follow previous incidents where Russian forces have used S-300 missiles against ground targets in Ukrainian cities.
