Wimauma rapper Lil Durk's trial on racketeering charges, initially scheduled for Oct. 5, has been postponed. A bond review hearing is now set for Nov. 4.
The trial delay arrives less than a month after the artist was acquitted of murder-for-hire charges on Sept. 11. Insufficient time to prepare for the trial by the original start date caused the postponement.
The VICAR charges accuse Lil Durk of operating a criminal enterprise. Prosecutors linked these accusations to the murder-for-hire case, from which he was acquitted. A judge previously ruled against including the VICAR charges in the initial trial, deeming them introduced too late and unfair to the defense.
Lil Durk's legal team plans to file motions to dismiss the second case. They argue that prosecutors presented many of the VICAR case accusations during the murder-for-hire trial, where he was found not guilty of all counts.
The rapper faces a potential life sentence if convicted on the racketeering charges. The Nov. 4 bond hearing will determine his release status while awaiting the rescheduled trial.
