CFCC Marine Technology Career Expo Attracts 100+
Cape Fear Community College hosted its Third Annual Marine Technology Career Expo on April 1, drawing more than 100 attendees and 25 employers. Half of the companies sent representatives who graduated from the program.
Students explored internships and careers in marine engineering, vessel operations, environmental monitoring, and ocean research. Bogan Herstine, a senior in the program, said networking with employers gave him a clearer picture of his options.
"It was fantastic to talk face-to-face with employers and see the opportunities available," Herstine said.
College President Jim Morton said the alumni-led companies demonstrate the program's regional reach. "It reflects the quality of our program and its impact on our region's marine economy," Morton said.
CFCC is also nearing completion of an 86-foot research vessel at Midship Marine, designed specifically for student training. The ship will serve as a floating classroom and lab for offshore research. The college expects to finish construction in late fall 2026.
