Residents across a large portion of Northern California, including the Sacramento and northern San Joaquin Valleys, Delta, and foothills, are advised to take precautions as a Heat Advisory has been issued. The National Weather Service in Sacramento issued the advisory effective immediately, October 7, 2026, at 8:51 AM PDT, and it will remain in effect until 10:00 PM PDT on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

High temperatures are expected to reach between 92 and 101 degrees Fahrenheit, with overnight low temperatures ranging from the mid-60s to low 70s. This weather pattern brings widespread Moderate HeatRisk, with some areas experiencing Major HeatRisk. The hottest conditions are anticipated today and Thursday.

The advisory impacts Western Shasta County Foothills, South-Central Shasta County (including Redding Metro), Eastern Shasta County Foothills, Sierra Nevada of Tehama-Butte-Plumas Counties, the Northern, Central, and Southern Motherlode regions, Western Tehama County Foothills, Northern Sacramento Valley in Tehama County, Central and Eastern Glenn County, Butte County Below 1000 ft, Western Glenn and Colusa County Foothills, Central and Eastern Colusa County, Sutter and Yuba Counties Below 1000 ft, Capay Hills of Yolo County, Vaca Hills of Solano County, Western Yolo County (including Capay Valley and Interstate 505), Central Yolo and Northeast Solano Counties (including Woodland and Davis), Sacramento Metro, Western El Dorado and Amador Counties, Central and Southwestern Solano County (including Fairfield, Vacaville, and Vallejo), Sacramento County Delta, San Joaquin County Delta, Central San Joaquin County (including Stockton Metro), Tracy Triangle Below 1000 ft, Northeastern San Joaquin Valley Below 1000 ft, Eastern Diablo Range Above 1000 ft, Western Stanislaus County Below 1000 ft (including Interstate 5), and Central Stanislaus County (including Modesto Metro).

Hot temperatures pose a risk for heat-related illnesses, especially for individuals without effective cooling or adequate hydration. The National Weather Service advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned rooms, staying out of the sun, and checking on relatives and neighbors. When outdoors, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing and limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Be aware of and take action for symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
