Tropical Storm Warning for Wilcox: Shelter from Dangerous Winds

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Wilcox County, urging residents to shelter from dangerous winds and prepare for moderate flooding beginning early this evening.

Staff Writer
10/09/2026 · Wilcox County edition

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Wilcox County, including Camden and Pine Hill, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Mobile, AL, warns residents to shelter from dangerous winds and prepare for moderate flooding.

Tropical Storm force winds, with peak gusts up to 60 mph, are expected to begin early this evening and continue until Saturday morning. The NWS advises that potential impacts from the main wind event are unfolding, with winds between 58 to 73 mph possible. All last-minute efforts to protect life and property should now be complete.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and floodwaters could impact structures, roads, and parking lots. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions. Heed any flood watches and warnings, as failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.

Tornadoes are not expected, according to the NWS, though gusty winds may accompany showers and thunderstorms. This alert is effective from October 9, 2026, at 1:02 PM CDT until October 9, 2026, at 9:15 PM CDT.
