Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Wilcox County
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Wilcox County, including Camden and Pine Hill, from Friday evening to early Saturday morning, with dangerous winds, moderate flooding rain, and potential tornadoes expected.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Wilcox County, including Camden and Pine Hill, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL. This watch is effective from October 7 at 9:53 PM CDT until October 8 at 6:00 AM CDT. Residents must act now to complete preparations before hazardous conditions begin.
Significant wind of equivalent strong tropical storm force is expected, with peak gusts of 45-60 mph, potentially reaching 75 mph. This period for strong winds is forecast from Friday evening until early Saturday morning. Prepare for significant wind damage, including potential damage to roofing, siding, mobile homes, and numerous downed trees. Power and communications outages are possible.
Moderate flooding rain is also anticipated, with 3-6 inches of rainfall and locally higher amounts. Emergency plans should include the potential for evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings. Rivers, creeks, and small streams may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Driving conditions will become hazardous due to road and bridge closures.
The NWS also indicates a potential for a few tornadoes. If your shelter is vulnerable, relocate to a safe shelter before hazardous weather arrives. If a tornado warning is issued, shelter quickly.
