WIGGINS, MS — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Wiggins, Stone County, effective immediately as of October 8 at 6:56 AM CDT. This means tropical storm-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours.

Residents in Wiggins should immediately begin efforts to protect life and property. Prepare for dangerous winds of equivalent strong tropical storm force (58-73 mph potential) and significant wind damage. This includes potential damage to roofing, siding, outbuildings, and mobile homes, as well as downed trees and power outages. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous.

Additionally, the NWS forecasts 1-3 inches of rain with locally higher amounts, leading to a potential for moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Flood waters can impact structures, cause road closures, and make driving hazardous.

The Tropical Storm Watch is currently set to expire on October 8 at 3:00 PM UTC. For local information, contact Stone County EMA at 601-928-3077 or visit stonecountyms.gov/emergency-management. For storm impacts, refer to www.weather.gov/mob.
