Knicks Secure 54 Wins, Enter Playoffs as Third Seed

Why it matters locally: The Atlanta Hawks are set to face the New York Knicks in the first round of the NBA playoffs, a series that will generate significant local interest.

The New York Knicks concluded the regular season with a 54-28 record, positioning them as the third seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. This season marks the team's first under head coach Mike Brown, who took over after the mid-season dismissal of Tom Thibodeau. The Knicks' 2024-2025 campaign followed a 51-win 2023-2024 season that saw them reach the Eastern Conference Semifinals before losing in six games to the Indiana Pacers. That previous season's run included a first-round victory over the Detroit Pistons and a second-round upset of the Boston Celtics. Player performance during the 2024-2025 regular season saw Jalen Brunson maintain his role as a primary scorer. Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges were acquired to enhance the roster. The team demonstrated strong play against lower-ranked opponents but faced challenges against top-tier teams in the league. New York now prepares to face the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the NBA playoffs. The Hawks, a fast-paced team, present a defensive challenge, particularly for Brunson, who may be guarded by Dyson Daniels. The outcome of this series could influence the future roles of Coach Brown, Towns, and Bridges within the Knicks organization.
