Residents in Lumpkin, White, and Hall counties are advised to seek immediate shelter due to a strong thunderstorm. The National Weather Service Peachtree City GA issued a Special Weather Statement today, September 20, at 4:40 PM EDT, which is effective until 5:15 PM EDT.

As of 4:40 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was located over Cleveland, moving southwest at 10 mph. This storm brings potential hazards including winds up to 40 mph, pea-sized hail, and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning. The National Weather Service confirms these conditions via radar indications.

Impacts from this storm are expected to include minor damage to tree limbs and the blowing around of light, unsecured objects. Locations within the impact zone include Gainesville, Cleveland, Lula, Clermont, Murrayville, Garland, Mossy Creek, and Qualatchee Lake.

The NWS strongly advises that anyone outdoors should seek shelter immediately. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Continue to monitor local weather updates for any changes to this developing situation.
