ELMORE COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Elmore County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 4:08 AM CDT, and expiring at 12:15 PM UTC today. Residents in Wetumpka and Tallassee are specifically advised to prepare for hazardous wind and significant flooding.

You must move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Plan for sustained winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with the potential for winds between 39 to 57 mph. Limited damage is possible to porches, awnings, carports, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect broken tree limbs, a few snapped or uprooted trees, and potential scattered power and communication outages. Remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate rainfall flooding could prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may quickly swell, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Driving conditions will become hazardous in affected areas.

Tornadoes are not expected, according to the NWS. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
