Tropical Storm Warning for Elmore: Winds Up To 65 MPH, Flood Watch Issued
Elmore County is under a Tropical Storm Warning with winds up to 65 mph and a Flood Watch for heavy rain; shelter immediately and prepare for potential flooding.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Elmore County, including Wetumpka and Tallassee, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 6:57 PM CDT. Residents should shelter from hazardous winds now.
Peak winds of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph are expected, continuing until Saturday afternoon. The NWS advises that property protection efforts should be complete. Moderate flooding from heavy rain is also anticipated, with an additional 1-3 inches possible. A Flood Watch is in effect, and evacuations and rescues are possible in vulnerable areas. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers may swell, and roads could become hazardous due to flooding.
