Tropical Storm Warning for Elmore County: Prepare for Hazardous Winds & Flooding

Elmore County, including Wetumpka and Tallassee, is under a Tropical Storm Warning with hazardous winds and moderate flooding expected; residents should move to safe shelter and prepare for impacts.

Elmore County residents, including those in Wetumpka and Tallassee, are under a Tropical Storm Warning, effective immediately as of October 9 at 6:57 AM CDT, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Birmingham AL. This warning is in effect until 3:00 PM UTC today.

Action is required now: move to safe shelter as hazardous winds of 39 to 57 mph are possible, with gusts up to 40 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including potential damage to sheds and unanchored mobile homes, and downed tree limbs. Scattered power outages are possible. All remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Up to 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, could lead to moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the potential for evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may quickly become swollen, and some roads may become impassable due to flooding. Driving conditions will be hazardous.
