A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Elmore County, including Wetumpka and Tallassee, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 1:19 AM CDT. This warning will expire at 9:30 AM UTC on October 9, 2026.

Residents should take immediate action to secure property and move to safe shelter due to the potential for hazardous winds between 39-57 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph. Limited damage to carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and power outages.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, potentially leading to moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to do so could result in serious injury or loss of life.

The NWS also indicates a potential for several tornadoes, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats are urged to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if one is issued. Significant damage, power loss, and communications failures are possible with tornadoes.
