Rabies Alert Issued for Weston After Raccoon Tests Positive

Broward County is currently under a rabies alert. This alert includes the Weston area. A raccoon in Broward County tested positive for the rabies virus. Rabies is a viral disease that affects the central nervous system of mammals, including humans. It is transmitted through the saliva of infected animals, usually through a bite or scratch. The rabies alert is in place for 60 days, starting on May 29th, 2024. Residents are advised to avoid contact with wild animals, especially raccoons, bats, foxes, and skunks. Pets should be vaccinated against rabies and kept under supervision.
