New Jersey Motor Vehicle System Error Registered 6,600 Noncitizens to Vote

TRENTON, N.J. – A software error within the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) system resulted in 6,600 noncitizens registering to vote, Governor Sherill reported. The governor, who assumed office this year, attributed the registrations to this system malfunction.

Preliminary analysis indicates that fewer than 400 of the individuals registered through this error subsequently cast ballots, Governor Sherill stated. The administration initiated an investigation into the matter after identifying the discrepancies.

The MVC system error automatically registered individuals as voters when they interacted with the agency, regardless of their citizenship status. Officials have begun reviewing records to identify and rectify the registrations.
