Man Killed, School Bus Bullet Strike in Southside Shooting

A man died and a school bus carrying students was struck by gunfire Monday morning in the historic Southside neighborhood.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting about 6:39 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, near the convergence of streets resembling busy intersections around Clematis Street. They found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A school bus traveled through the intersection and a bullet inadvertently struck it. No students aboard the bus sustained injuries.

The Major Case Unit is investigating the homicide. No suspects were in custody as of Monday morning.
