The School Board approved Boundary Study RB-1 on March 11, 2026, implementing significant changes to elementary school attendance zones in Belle Glade. The decision consolidates Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary and West Riviera Elementary.
Under the new plan, West Riviera Elementary will serve pre-kindergarten through 2nd grade, while Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary will accommodate 3rd through 5th graders. Students in kindergarten through 5th grade residing within the current Lincoln Elementary attendance zone will now attend the consolidated West Riviera and Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune zones. Lincoln Elementary will be repurposed.
Additionally, the area north of Blue Heron Boulevard, previously part of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary's zone, will now be rezoned to Washington Elementary. These adjustments aim to manage student enrollment and optimize district resources.
The board held a workshop and first read of the proposal on February 4, 2026, before the final adoption vote. Detailed reports on student enrollment, feeder patterns, and relevant policies are available for public review.
