A 77-year-old woman shot and killed a man who attacked her in a parking lot early Monday, authorities said.

Deputies with the Baker County Sheriff’s Office responded about 4:30 a.m. to the Macclenny Veterinary Hospital parking lot after the woman called to report she had fired her weapon.

Upon arrival, deputies found Alvin Tyrone Tisdale, 57, who had been attacked by the woman. Tisdale was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Preliminary findings indicate the woman acted in self-defense. The Baker County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
