On July 5, Aging Matters in Brevard honored the birthday of Ed Kydd, nationally recognized Meals on Wheels Volunteer, who passed away April 27, 2019, by Proclaiming July 5 of every year as “Ed Kydd Day” at Aging Matters.

On July 5, Aging Matters in Brevard honored the birthday of Ed Kydd, nationally recognized Meals on Wheels Volunteer, who passed away April 27, 2019, by Proclaiming July 5 of every year as “Ed Kydd Day” at Aging Matters. To continue to honor Ed’s kindness and dedication to the Meals on Wheels Program, Aging Matters in Brevard is also announced an annual “Ed Kydd Volunteer Service Award” for dedication and excellence within our Meals on Wheels Volunteer Family. “Ed would have turned 103 years old this year and delivered Meals on Wheels in Rockledge Florida with his daughter Janet von Berg, age 73, until the day before he passed” said Josh Jensen, CEO and President of Aging Matters in Brevard. “Ed’s 30 year dedication to our organization and to the citizens he served on a daily basis continues to inspire us all.” In a remembrance from Sherriff Wayne Ivey in the Space Coast Daily News, Ed is remembered as “quiet unsung hero who went about his mission of helping others without even once asking for recognition.” “Without Ed and the other volunteers at “Meals on Wheels”,” Writes Sherriff Ivey, many of our seniors would go hungry and lonely, having no one to care for them or to even talk to”. Craig Edmondson-Wood, Program Director for the Brevard Senior Nutrition Program, announced the award at Ed’s Meals on Wheels route in Rockledge on July 5.
