Record Pet Adoptions at Local Shelter, Needs Ongoing Support

Local residents found loving homes for numerous pets recently, thanks to the animal shelter. The shelter reported a successful adoption month in October and continues to seek adopters and fosters. Stormy, adopted Dec. 19, 2024, has settled in well. Her owner reported, "She is the most wonderful, well-trained dog I have ever had! She came to us already knowing several commands, walks great on leash, is great with my cats, is crate-trained, sweet, and goofy. We are very lucky to have her. Thank you for keeping her safe until we found her." The shelter attributes successful transitions to its focus on animal socialization and health checks prior to adoption. All adoption fees are currently waived.

Mark Swanson adopted Blade over the weekend of Oct. 16. Swanson thanked the shelter staff for their assistance. "We can't thank the people who work at the animal shelter enough for helping to find our wonderful dog called Blade," he said. Blade, approximately one year old, had been at the shelter for about a month. "When I first met Blade he was so calm and friendly. Unfortunately, someone shot him in his leg, and I thought he'd been through a tough time, so I wanted to give him the chance at a great life," Swanson said. Dr. Elizabeth Fitzpatrick, DVM, noted that Blade "is a very sweet boy and allowed us to medicate him while he healed." Blade knows basic commands.

Adeline joined her new family the weekend of Oct. 29. Owner Jane Dalton chose Adeline for her size, soulful eyes and "chill personality." Dalton's family sought a companion for their 15-year-old shi-poo, Koda, after a recent loss. Adeline is friendly and enjoys attention.

Turner, a dog with a facial deformity and missing teeth, also found a home with Sharon Smallwood. Turner, formerly known as Turbo, was surrendered Oct. 3, 2021, and spent a year at the shelter. Smallwood described Turner as "one of the sweetest dogs that has ever been in this house," noting he listens well and makes a perfect companion. Turner's veterinarian praised the medical care he received at the shelter.

October marked the shelter's best adoption month on record, with 70 pets finding homes. Many animals still await adoption. Interested individuals can visit the shelter's website to learn more about the adoption process and available pets.
