Republicans Plan Midterm Convention in Dallas

Why it matters locally: While the convention is not in Virginia, the Republican party's national strategy for increased voter participation in congressional races directly impacts Virginia's own competitive congressional districts.

President Donald Trump announced Republicans will hold their first national convention before midterm elections. The event, scheduled for September in Dallas, Texas, seeks to increase voter participation in congressional races. Republicans aim to maintain control of Congress in the upcoming elections. The convention represents an unusual step for a party ahead of midterm voting periods.
