Dense Fog Advisory Issued for Region: Drive with Caution

A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Baltimore MD/Washington DC due to localized dense fog with visibilities dropping below one-quarter of a mile. This advisory is effective immediately, October 5, 2026, at 6:39 AM EDT, and is expected to expire at 9:00 AM EDT today.

Motorists are advised to use extreme caution when driving this morning. The fog is patchy but locally very dense, meaning sudden drops in visibility are expected. The NWS recommends reducing speed, leaving extra travel time and following distance, and using low beam headlights.

The affected areas include a wide region spanning the Patapsco River including Baltimore Harbor, the District of Columbia, Washington, Frederick, Carroll, Northern Baltimore, Cecil, Southern Baltimore, Prince Georges, Anne Arundel, Charles, St. Marys, Calvert, Extreme Western Allegany, Central and Eastern Allegany, Northwest Montgomery, Central and Southeast Montgomery, Northwest Howard, Central and Southeast Howard, Northwest Harford, Southeast Harford, Western Garrett, Eastern Garrett counties in Maryland; Augusta, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren, Clarke, Nelson, Albemarle, Greene, Madison, Rappahannock, Orange, Culpeper, Fairfax, Arlington/Falls Church/Alexandria, Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, Northern Fauquier, Southern Fauquier, Western Highland, Eastern Highland, Western Loudoun, Eastern Loudoun, Northern Virginia Blue Ridge, Central Virginia Blue Ridge, Northwest Prince William, Central and Southeast Prince William/Manassas/Manassas Park counties in Virginia; and Hampshire, Morgan, Berkeley, Jefferson, Hardy, Western Grant, Eastern Grant, Western Mineral, Eastern Mineral, Western Pendleton, Eastern Pendleton counties in West Virginia.
