ICE Plans New Family Holding Facility in Louisiana

Why it matters locally: The new ICE facility in Louisiana, a neighboring state, could impact Mississippi through increased transportation routes for detainees or by affecting the workload of federal agencies operating across state lines, including those with operations in Mississippi.

The Trump administration plans to open a 528-bed holding center for migrant families and unaccompanied children. The facility will house individuals awaiting removal from the United States. Officials will locate the new center next to a Louisiana airfield. This airfield has become the nation's largest hub for deportation flights. The new facility intends to house both families and unaccompanied children. The combined capacity for these groups will be 528 individuals. This development signals a strategic placement near existing infrastructure for removals.
