Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Decatur, Wayne Counties Until 8:15 PM CDT
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Southern Decatur and Southwestern Wayne Counties until 8:15 PM CDT, with residents urged to seek shelter immediately due to 60 mph winds and nickel-sized hail.
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Southern Decatur County and Southwestern Wayne County in south-central Iowa until 8:15 PM CDT tonight, September 19. Residents are advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for protection.
The National Weather Service in Des Moines issued the warning at 7:23 PM CDT. A severe thunderstorm was located near Lamoni Municipal Airport, approximately 10 miles southwest of Leon, moving east at 25 mph. The primary hazards include 60 mph wind gusts and nickel-sized hail. Radar indicated these conditions.
Impacts are expected to include damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Areas affected include Leon, Lamoni, Lineville, Davis City, Decatur, Pleasanton, South Lineville, Nine Eagles State Park, and Lamoni Municipal Airport. This also includes Interstate 35 between mile markers 1 and 12. The warning remains in effect until 8:15 PM CDT.
