Beach Hazards Alert: Dangerous Rip Currents, Sneaker Waves Expected
A Beach Hazards Statement has been issued for the Coastal North Bay and San Francisco Peninsula Coast, warning of dangerous rip currents and sneaker waves from Saturday morning through Monday evening; stay out of the water and off coastal structures.
Residents and visitors along the Coastal North Bay, including Point Reyes National Seashore, and the San Francisco Peninsula Coast are advised to stay out of the water and off coastal structures due to a Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco CA.
The alert, issued on October 10 at 2:47 PM PDT, is effective from Saturday morning, October 11, through Monday evening, October 13. During this period, an increased risk of dangerous rip currents and sneaker waves is expected, with breaking waves potentially reaching up to 16 feet.
The NWS warns of hazardous surf conditions, including strong rip currents, large breaking waves, and unpredictable sneaker waves. These conditions pose a significant danger to anyone in or near the water.
To ensure safety, the public is instructed to stay off jetties, piers, rocks, and other waterside infrastructure. It is crucial to remain out of the water and NEVER turn your back on the ocean. For ongoing updates, monitor local weather, surf, and tide forecasts at www.weather.gov/mtr.
