A Heat Advisory has been issued for numerous Bay Area regions today, October 8, 2026, by the National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco. Residents in affected areas should take immediate precautions to stay hydrated and avoid heat-related illness.

The advisory is effective until 10:00 PM PDT this evening. Hot conditions are expected, with maximum temperatures reaching the mid-90s to near 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Overnight relief will be limited due to mild minimum temperatures and weak onshore flow.

Affected areas include the Sonoma Coastal Range, North Bay Interior Mountains, North Bay Interior Valleys, San Francisco Bay Shoreline, East Bay Interior Valleys, Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Clara Valley (including San Jose), Eastern Santa Clara Hills, East Bay Hills, Southern Salinas Valley/Arroyo Seco and Lake San Antonio, Santa Lucia Mountains and Los Padres National Forest, and Mountains of San Benito County and Interior Monterey County (including Pinnacles National Park).

The NWS warns that this level of heat can impact anyone without effective cooling or adequate hydration. Health systems, heat-sensitive industries, and infrastructure may also experience impacts.

Actionable information:

  • Hydrate: Drink plenty of water. If possible, provide water to vulnerable individuals.
  • Precautions Outdoors: Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing. Limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours.
  • Recognize Symptoms: Take action immediately if you experience symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
  • Never Leave Children or Pets in Vehicles: Car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in minutes. Always "Beat the heat and check the backseat!"
