Watervliet Winter Teams Earn Scholar-Athlete Honors

Four Watervliet varsity teams earned scholar-athlete recognition from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association by maintaining team grade point averages of 90 percent or higher throughout the winter season.

The boys basketball, girls basketball, bowling and cheer teams qualified for the honor. NYSPHSAA requires at least 75 percent of a team's roster to meet the academic threshold. Thirty-six individual athletes earned GPAs of 90 or above.

Qualifying teams will receive certificates from NYSPHSAA. Individual students who met the standard will receive pins. The designation appears on student transcripts and college applications.
