Governor Mills Statement on Trump Administration’s Plans to Remove Restrictions on Power Plants | Office of Governor Janet T. Mills Governor Mills Statement on Trump Administration’s Plans to Remove Restrictions on Power Plants September 14, 2026 Augusta, MAINE – Governor Janet Mills today released the following statement in response to news that the Trump Administration intends to repeal the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s “endangerment finding” for power plants: “Let’s be clear about what the Trump Administration is proposing: allowing power plants that burn gas and coal to pump unlimited amounts of dangerous pollution into our atmosphere. These emissions endanger public health and contribute to the increasingly stronger storms that have washed out roads in the Oxford Hills, flooded towns like Madison and Skowhegan, and washed working waterfronts into the sea. “The President calls climate change a ‘hoax.’ The real hoax is his promise to lower costs while he puts Maine taxpayers on the hook for future storm damage.”
