CHIPLEY, FL – The City of Chipley has released its 2015 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report, confirming that the local water supply met all federal and state requirements during that year. The report, which covers the period from January 1 to December 31, 2015, details the city's efforts to provide a safe and dependable water supply to its residents.

The city's water source is groundwater drawn from four wells tapping into the Floridan Aquifer. According to the report, the water's excellent quality requires only chlorine for disinfection purposes. The city routinely monitors for contaminants in accordance with federal and state laws.

Residents can find detailed results of the city's water quality testing for 2015 in the report. For example, nitrate levels, a common concern, were detected at a maximum of 0.21 parts per million (ppm), well below the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) of 10 ppm. Barium was detected at a maximum of 0.007 ppm, also below its MCL of 2 ppm. Chromium levels were measured at a maximum of 3.5 parts per billion (ppb), significantly under the MCL of 100 ppb.

The report also provides definitions for terms like MCL, MCL Goal (MCLG), and Action Level (AL), helping residents understand the data presented. The city encourages its customers to stay informed about their water utility.

For those interested in learning more, the City of Chipley holds regularly scheduled meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM at City Hall. Questions about the report or the water utility can be directed to Tim Ray at (850) 638-6347.
