Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Washington County: Prepare Now
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Washington County, including Chatom and Millry, with tropical storm-force winds and moderate flooding rain possible within the next 48 hours. Prepare for significant wind damage and potential flooding now.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Washington County, including the communities of Chatom and Millry, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Mobile, AL, issued the watch today, October 7, 2026, at 4:03 PM CDT. This means tropical storm-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours.
Residents in affected areas should prepare for significant wind damage, with peak wind gusts expected to reach 25-35 mph, potentially up to 45 mph. There is a potential for wind speeds of 58 to 73 mph, which could cause damage to roofing, siding, and unanchored mobile homes. Large trees may be snapped or uprooted, leading to impassable roads and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect life and property should begin immediately.
In addition to wind threats, moderate flooding rain is anticipated, with 3-6 inches of rainfall expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to moderate rainfall flooding, potentially prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and flood waters could enter some structures. Residents in areas vulnerable to flooding should consider protective actions and heed any flood watches and warnings. Failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.
Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more information, contact Washington County EMA at 251-847-2668 or visit www.weather.gov/mob. This Tropical Storm Watch is effective until October 8, 2026, 12:15 AM UTC.
