Wallowa County residents should prepare for sub-freezing temperatures as a Freeze Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Pendleton. The watch is in effect from late Friday night, October 9, through Saturday morning, October 10.

Temperatures as low as 29 degrees Fahrenheit are possible in the Wallowa Valley. These conditions could be detrimental to sensitive crops and other vegetation, and may also cause damage to unprotected outdoor plumbing.

The NWS advises taking immediate steps to protect tender plants from the cold. Residents should also consider measures to safeguard outdoor plumbing.

The Freeze Watch was issued on October 8 at 5:43 PM PDT and is active until October 10 at 10:00 AM PDT.
