They formed a Facebook group to chat. They invited each other to set up together. The next step in promoting the Jay County offerings comes next weekend. TNCMS.AdManager.render({region: 'fixed-big-ad-top-asset', slot: 1, fold: "above"}); The inaugural Flavor on Wheels food truck rally is scheduled for 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at Hudson Family Park in Portland. “I just feel like you hear all the time that there’s nothing to do in Jay County,” said The Scoop Station owner Dylan Franks, who is organizing the event. “I feel like if I can be a part of having something to do, then people are going to stop and give all of us food trucks business …” That opportunity will come on May 30 as the festival will feature Ryzone’s (pizza), Two Mamas on Tap (drinks), Twice the Spice (barbecue), Tayo’s Taqueria (tacos) and The Scoop Station (ice cream). “I just feel like there’s other food options than just the fast food that everybody talks about,” Franks said. “Everybody likes food trucks, and Muncie’s swarming with them right now, too. “So we talked about doing a food truck festival.” TNCMS.AdManager.render({region: 'fixed-big-ad-middle-asset', slot: 1, fold: "span"}); While he was still finalizing plans, Franks said he was looking at having the food trucks set up around the circle at the southeast side of the park with other vendors branching out along both sides of the driveway to the west. More than 35 vendors are signed up to attend. They offer products ranging from homemade soaps and detergents to honey, baked goods and clothing. “It’s a place where you can go support local, support small,” said Franks, noting that a lot of the vendors who will be on hand do not have a storefront. While vendors are coming from all over, including as far away as Indianapolis, food trucks were limited to those that are based in Jay County for the inaugural year. Franks said he felt it was important to keep the focus local this year and consider expanding in the future. Even so, he said, there will always be an effort to spotlight the local food trucks.
