Why Shakespeare’s Summer Day Refuses to End

Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18 begins with a famous question about summer—but its real subject is time, and the audacious little trick poetry can play on it. Read the poem as a wager: what if a few lines could outlast the season itself?

The Power You Want Should Not Belong to Someone Else

Mary Wollstonecraft’s sharpest line about freedom is also a useful test for modern arguments about power: are we trying to control others, or finally govern ourselves?

The Relationship Is Fine—So Why Do I Feel Like I’m Losing My Mind?

Stop Pretending You Need Another Prestige Drama. Watch “The Pitt.”

“The Pitt” is the rare medical show that understands an emergency room is not a metaphor for America—it is simply a place where everyone is tired, bleeding, and making terrible decisions. Plus: four things worth your time, and one expensive-looking dud to leave in the digital lobby.

Horry County's new Central Coast Complex is open to serve

Horry County’s Central Coast Complex is now open in Carolina Forest, bringing a wide range of County services closer to home for many. Residents can visit the new location to access the Assessor, Auditor and Treasurer offices, making it easier to take care of County business without traveling across the county. The complex also includes a satellite Clerk of Court office, Magistrate courtrooms and Probate Court offices. The facility is also the new, permanent home of the Horry County Police Department’s Fifth Precinct. Located at 332 Hinson Drive in Myrtle Beach, the Central Coast Complex is open to residents Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We ask for patience as systems and processes are brought online at the facility and apologize for any inconveniences as we work through the first few days of operations. A ceremonial ribbon cutting is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 16, marking the official celebration of this new resource for the community. We look forward to welcoming residents and providing convenience access to county services.
