Tropical Storm Warning for Coastal Wakulla: Life-Threatening Surge Possible
Coastal Wakulla is under a Tropical Storm Warning, with a life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet possible and residents urged to complete evacuation and flood preparations immediately.
Coastal Wakulla residents, particularly in Saint Marks and Panacea, are under a Tropical Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective immediately as of October 8 at 11:06 AM EDT. This warning remains in effect until October 8 at 7:15 PM UTC.
Life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet above ground is possible between Friday morning and Saturday morning. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations should be completed before conditions become unsafe. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services. Significant impacts from storm surge include potential damage to buildings, washed-out roads, major beach erosion, and damage to marinas.
While peak winds are forecast at 20-30 mph with gusts to 35 mph, conditions may still be gusty. Listen for instructions from local officials and ensure emergency readiness. A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rain expected, potentially causing moderate flooding. Heed any flood watches and warnings.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes. Be prepared to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. For more information, visit NWS Tallahassee, Florida Division of Emergency Management, and Wakulla County Emergency Management.
