GRAND OPENING OF THE NEW WAKULLA COUNTY LIBRARY: SEPTEMBER 29, 2026
Crawfordville, Fla – Wakulla County Library Services, along with the Board of County Commissioners, is excited to announce the Grand Opening of the new Wakulla County Public Library, located at 296 Shadeville Road. The public is invited to attend the grand opening ceremony on Tuesday, September 29 at 9 a.m.
“This new library is more than a building, it’s a long-term investment in our residents. It gives families, students, and seniors a modern place to learn, connect, and grow right here in the heart of Crawfordville.” said Somer Pell, Assistant County Administrator
The new facility is a modern 12,500 square foot single story library that includes amenities that are in high demand for the community. These features include Teen spaces, gaming consoles, areas dedicated to Children’s programming, furniture with plug-in technology, public computers, and the library’s resident chickens, which will relocate with the move. The new library includes more than 30,700 materials in its collection.
Funding of $3,857,918 came from Florida Commerce’s Capital Projects Fund Multi-Purpose Community Facilities Project Program. The money originated with the U.S. Treasury and was distributed through Florida Commerce’s Office of Broadband to expand community broadband access through new or renovated multipurpose facilities. The program requires funded facilities to provide a private telemedicine room, educational opportunities such as digital literacy and online learning, and employment services including online training, certification, and job search access.
Linda Oaks, Director of Library Services, added, “Opening the doors to our new Wakulla County Public Library is an incredibly exciting moment for our community. This new facility represents more than a new building, it represents an investment in our citizens, our families, and the future of Wakulla County. Our library is a place where everyone belongs, whether they come to discover a new book, use technology, attend a program, study, connect with others, or simply find a welcoming place in their community. I am extremely grateful to everyone who helped make this vision a reality, and I cannot wait to see our citizens make this new library their own.”
