Wabash School Resource Officer Pushes Imitation Gun Policy
Officer R. Sam Hipskind of Wabash Middle School has been active in advocating for school safety measures regarding realistic-looking toy guns, replicas, and airsoft guns on school grounds.
Hipskind, president of the Indiana School Resource Officers Association, has worked to address what school safety officials describe as a dangerous gap created by imitation firearms on school property.
Hipskind has worked with the Wabash Police Department since 1996 and has served as the district's school resource officer since 2013. Chief Terance Smith of Decatur Township Schools, who serves on INSROA's executive board, has supported these efforts.
Superintendent Dr. Amy Sivley praised Hipskind's work shaping school safety policy while serving students. "Officer Hipskind's dedication and leadership reflect the highest standards of service in school safety," Sivley said.
