Tammy Jo Lavery, age 56, of Perry, passed away peacefully at her home on May 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of the family she cherished throughout her life.Tammy was born on September 2, 1969, in Uvalde, Texas, to Joe Edwin Rogers and Nancy Kay Spencer. She grew up with a strong spirit, a quick wit, and a personality that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She graduated from Uvalde High School and went on to attend college in Uvalde for two years. She also spent several years as a teacher in Texas, where her patience, intelligence, and caring nature touched the lives of many students.Tammy spent much of her life in automotive manufacturing, a field that suited her strength, determination, and hands-on abilities. She was never afraid of hard work and took pride in doing things well. Her knowledge and skill were remarkable, and those who knew her best often said she could rebuild a motor with her eyes closed. Tammy had a natural talent for mechanics and a confidence that made her stand out in any setting.On January 16, 1988, in Uvalde, Tammy married Gregory Alan Lavery, the love of her life. Their marriage of 38 years was built on devotion, laughter, and a bond that remained strong through every season of life. Gregory met Tammy at the car wash while she was washing her Camaro, a meeting that began a lifelong love story. Together they built a home filled with love, loyalty, and countless memories that will be treasured forever.Tammy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She is survived by her husband, Gregory, her daughters Amanda Chalker and her husband Joshua, and Cassie Gale and her husband Shane, and her beloved grandchildren Blake, Nik, Jaden, Paytin, Kollin, and Brynnley. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Stonecipher, and her mother, Nancy Rogers. Her family was the center of her world, and she loved each of them deeply and fiercely.Tammy was known for her love of reading, especially Stephen King books, and she found joy in stories that matched her bold and spirited nature. Halloween was her favorite holiday, and she always decorated for the season with enthusiasm and creativity. She loved her dogs dearly and had a special soft spot for Pitbulls. Drag racing was one of her favorite pastimes, and she enjoyed the excitement, sound, and energy of the sport. Tammy lived life with fire and passion, and she brought that same energy into everything she did.Those who knew Tammy will remember her as feisty, full of life, and wonderfully sarcastic.
