It is with heavy hearts and beautiful memories that we celebrate the life of Brian Wayne Thompson “Kentucky”, 65, of Perry, MI. Brian was welcomed into Heaven on May 26th, after a courageous battle with cancer. Although he did not leave this Earth by fighting a shark as he had hoped, he fought a legendary battle nonetheless.Brian affectionately became known as “Kentucky” due to his unwavering support of the University of Kentucky. He represented the UK through his hats, shirts, and even his loyal southern accent. He was a man who lived every single day to the fullest and brought joy to everyone who crossed his path. He was the life of the party, the first on the dance floor, and could make a quiet room erupt in laughter. He enjoyed whistling along to Air Supply, road trips, and helping his team win trivia with his knowledge of random facts. He was the first person you would call if you were in need of help, and he would drop everything to be there for you. To know Brian was to love Brian.Brian was born on October 7th, 1960, in Fall River, MA. Upon graduating from high school as Peewee, Brian joined the United States Marine Corps and spent the majority of his years in the Corps with his friends at the softball field. He spent many nights at the ballfield, where he became known as BT. Most importantly, he met Jill, with whom he would create a life with. After leaving the Marine Corps, Brian and his family settled in Perry, MI. Here, he would raise a family and become known around town as Kentucky.Brian dedicated his life to the community and athletics. He coached many sports teams from basketball to baseball. He was not only a coach, but he was a mentor, providing valuable lessons in life and sports to the many youth that crossed his path. Between helping in various ways with youth teams and old-man basketball on Sunday mornings, sports were a huge part of his life. Recently, he developed a passion for golf. Whether he was chasing the perfect swing at Glenbrier or in the middle of the kitchen, Brian was always perfecting his game.Above all, Brian had a deep, abiding love for his grandchildren. Whether they were right down the road or many states away, Brian was determined to spend quality time with them. He enjoyed taking them on many adventures, including their first Disney trip and feeding the fish cheese balls at the lake. His grandchildren knew how loved they were and will keep their memories of him forever.Brian leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. He is survived by his wife Jill; his children: Justin, Kevin, Jason (Shawna), and Jamie (Jon); his grandchildren Savannah, Aspen, Olivia, Breslin, and Grant; his sisters; and many other family members and friends who will cherish his memory. He is preceded in death by his parents, Billy Ray and Barbara, and his brother, Mike.In Brian’s honor, go to a game, an outdoor concert, have a beer with a friend or spend time loving the ones who matter most. Turn up your favorite song and remember Brian exactly how he lived: laughing, singing, dancing, and living life to the fullest.
