Brunswick Recreation Launches Summer Adult Pick-Up Sports Program

Is your life too busy to join a sports league but you still enjoy getting out to play sports? Would you like to get some exercise, enjoy a little competition but not have to commit to a long season? We are organizing some pick up games at various fields in Brunswick this summer to offer adults the opportunity to play a sport they enjoy or to try a sport they may have never tried before. Pick-Up Rugby at Harriet Beecher Stowe SchoolPick-Up Adult Rugby is held Tuesday evenings from 6pm until 8pm at HBS starting on June 23rd and ending in late August. Have you ever wondered what Rugby was all about?  Want to find out?  This summer Portland Rugby Club will be holding pick-up “touch” rugby sessions, which is a non-contact version of the sport, similar to flag football. Sessions are co-ed, and are open to adults. Equipment requirements are minimal. Cleats are the best choice of footwear (soccer style is fine), although sneakers with good grip can work. It’s a fast paced game, so shorts and a t-shirt are ideal apparel. Finally, bring plenty of water, and perhaps a dry shirt to change into afterwards.  Be prepared to have fun!  Pick-Up Coed Soccer at the Bikepath FieldPick-Up adult soccer is held Tuesday evenings starting at 6 p.m., until dark.  Bring a dark and light shirt, cleats, a ball if you have one and some water. Men and women welcome.  Please park in appropriate parking spots.  Do not park in double length spots designed for users with boat trailers.  Pick-up soccer runs each Tuesday, starting when the fields are playable in April and ending towards the middle of October, field conditions permitting.Pick-Up Coed Walking Soccer at Lishness RinkWalking Soccer is a new version of the ‘beautiful game’. Players enjoy physical activity without running. Stay active, socialize, and experience the sport in a relaxed environment!Pick-Up Walking Soccer is being held Thursday evenings starting June 4th at 6:00 p.m. Bring a dark and light shirt, comfortable footwear, a ball if you have one and some water. Men and women welcome.  Pick-Up Coed Adult Lacrosse at Crimmins FieldPick-Up adult lacrosse is being held Tuesday evenings starting June 23rd at 6 p.m. Players must be 18 years of age or older to play.  Play should be limited to the field closest to the walking path. Bring a dark and light shirt, cleats, full men’s-rules protective gear, ball, and some water. All adults are welcome.  Some contact should be expected with “friendly” play being emphasized.  The field can be accessed by parking at the Brunswick Junior High and walking across the street.  Any use of the field by youth sports organizations will take priority over adult play.  Pick-Up Pickleball at the Recreation CenterHeld most mornings and most evenings at the Recreation Center. There is a $2 fee for Brunswick Residents and a $3 fee for non-residents. Introductory lessons are offered on Tuesday evenings. Check out the schedule for available times. For more information about the sport check out our pickleball page.Additional SportsHave another sport that you would like to see offered that is not listed above? Please contact us at 207-725-6656.
