Strong Storms Approach Jackson and Vinton Counties: Seek Shelter

Residents in Jackson and Vinton Counties are advised to seek shelter indoors as strong thunderstorms approach. The National Weather Service in Charleston, WV, issued a Special Weather Statement at 9:55 PM EDT tonight, September 20, effective until 10:30 PM EDT.

Doppler radar at 9:54 PM EDT detected strong thunderstorms moving east at 35 mph. These storms are tracking along a line from near Williamsport to Chillicothe to North Folk Village, directly impacting areas including Allensville and Eagle Mills.

The primary hazard is wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph, as indicated by radar. These strong winds could knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured outdoor objects. If you are outdoors, immediately move inside a sturdy building for safety.

Torrential rainfall is also accompanying these storms, which may lead to localized flooding. A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. If you observe rising water, move to higher ground immediately. Never drive into areas covered by water.
