Swing Voters Respond to Former President's Election System Claims

Former President Donald Trump recently described the American election system as "broken." Voters in several swing states shared their reactions to these claims.

Some voters expressed agreement with Trump's characterization. Kevin Collins, a Republican who voted for Trump in the previous election, voiced concerns about mail-in ballots. Collins stated, "I am afraid that a big, big portion of it is because of absentee ballots." He noted that he submitted an absentee ballot for his presidential vote but now regrets the decision, citing a lack of confidence in the process. Collins affirmed his intention to vote in person in future elections.

Conversely, other voters disagreed with Trump's assessment. Beth Barnes, a registered Republican who did not vote for Trump, articulated a different viewpoint. Barnes commented, "I don't think it's broken at all." She emphasized her trust in local election officials to count votes accurately. Barnes further stated, "I really feel confident that the election workers are doing a good job."

Another voter, David Jones, described himself as an independent. Jones indicated that he believed the system required improvements, but he did not view it as fundamentally "broken." He referenced instances where election results have faced challenges. Jones stated, "There is work that needs to be done within the election system itself, but broken would be a too strong of a word to use."
