City of Lyons staff recently participated in Reading Across America Week at Toombs Head Start, spending time reading with young students. The initiative was organized by Robert Tillman, Coalition Coordinator for Safe Kids Toombs.
Throughout the week, city employees visited classrooms, engaging with the children through stories and receiving warm welcomes, including many hugs. City Manager Jason Hall and Community Development Director Jessica Barfield McCoy were among those who read with the students. Assistant City Clerk Chaquandra Hudson also joined the activities, with some students expressing a desire for her to return for future visits.
The City of Lyons expressed its gratitude to Toombs Head Start for hosting the visits and to Safe Kids Toombs for the invitation. Officials stated that supporting literacy and connecting with young readers is vital for the city's future. The city views the participation as a positive community experience and a way to encourage a love of reading among its youngest residents.
