Lyons is celebrating the distinguished career of Fire Chief Darel Corley, who is concluding his service as Fire Chief on March 31, 2026, after dedicating over three decades to the city.
Chief Corley began his fire service journey in 1983 as a volunteer firefighter with the City of Vidalia, transitioning to a full-time role in 1984. His leadership qualities were recognized early, leading to a promotion to Captain in 1986. In 1993, he was selected to lead the City of Lyons Fire Department as Fire Chief.
Throughout his tenure in Lyons, Chief Corley has been a steadfast presence, protecting lives and property with integrity and professionalism. He has actively mentored firefighters, operated fire apparatus, and worked to strengthen the department's capabilities. His commitment extended to community outreach, notably through fire safety education programs in partnership with Toombs County Schools and Robert Toombs Christian Academy, aiming to prepare the youth for emergencies.
Beyond his official duties, Chief Corley has been a visible community supporter, contributing his time to local efforts such as Christmas toy drives to bring joy to families in Lyons. His dedication to public service remains strong, as he will transition to the role of Public Works Director for the City of Lyons following his departure as Fire Chief.
