UW Farm Launches New Internship Cohort in King County
UW Farm Welcomes New Internship Cohort
King County residents will see new faces contributing to local food systems and environmental education, as the University of Washington Farm at the Center for Urban Horticulture launched its latest internship cohort. The program brings together students from diverse academic backgrounds to gain hands-on experience in urban farming.
Among the new interns is Ace Rasmussen, a fourth-year student pursuing degrees in Psychology and Environmental Science and Resource Management. Rasmussen began her involvement with the UW Farm as a community volunteer before transitioning into a General Farm intern role, with a specific focus on flowers. She expressed enthusiasm for learning about urban farming and contributing to mutual aid efforts within the community. Rasmussen also enjoys crocheting, spending time with her cat “Mama,” and mushroom foraging in the fall.
Also joining the cohort is Allison Elliott, a second-year student studying Environmental Studies and Food Systems, Nutrition and Health. Elliott brings prior experience from volunteering as a Community Engaged Leadership and Education (CELE) student at the University District Food Bank in Spring 2025 and at the UW Farm in Fall 2025.
The UW Farm, part of the University of Washington Botanic Gardens, is located within the Center for Urban Horticulture. It serves as a living laboratory and educational resource for students and the wider community.
