Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Chambers County: Act Now to Prepare
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Chambers County, including Valley, Lanett, and Lafayette, urging residents to prepare for hazardous wind, potential flooding, and tornadoes through early October 9.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Chambers County, including Valley, Lanett, and Lafayette, effective immediately until October 9 at 12:15 AM UTC, as announced by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL. Residents are urged to take immediate action to prepare for hazardous wind, potential flooding, and the possibility of tornadoes.
The NWS forecasts wind speeds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to outdoor property, downed tree limbs, and scattered power outages are possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Complete preparations before hazardous winds begin.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding could prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow, and some structures could be affected. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.
Conditions are favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Significant damage to homes and property is possible.
