A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Chambers County, including Valley, Lanett, and Lafayette, effective immediately until 12:15 PM UTC today, October 9. The National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL, issued the watch at 4:08 AM CDT, indicating a severe and future threat to the community.

Residents should prepare for potential moderate flooding from heavy rain, with 1-3 inches of rainfall expected and locally higher amounts. A Flood Watch is currently in effect. Evacuations and rescues are possible. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.

The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, with significant potential impacts including damage to structures, power loss, and dangerous projectiles. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. Keep informed should additional weather alerts be needed.

While sustained winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force (10-20 mph with gusts to 35 mph), conditions may still be gusty. Listen for instructions from local officials and ensure emergency readiness should the forecast change. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
